Rain ruins Joe-Pete game
By Leslie Fernando
CRICKET: Heavy rain around 2.20 p.m. forced the 34th annual
Josephian-Peterite limited-over cricket match to be abandoned at the R.
Premadasa Stadium yesterday.
With this no-decision, the series tally stands on Peterite 18 wins
and Joes 14 and two games with no results.
Peterites sent into bat made 218 for 7 in their alloted 50 overs
helped by two valuable partnerships. The openers Srimantha Wijeratne
(12) and Andri Berenger 40 with seven fours put on a solid 54 runs then
skipper Anuk Silva 32 with six fours and Ruwan Wickremanayake 42 with
two fours added 47 runs for the 5th wicket.
Suranga Rodrigo hit a quick fire 26 runs in ten balls which included
3 sixes and a four.
When play was called off Joes were 20 for no loss in 6 overs.
