Thomians in 'quarters'
RUGBY: S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia with three impressive
victories powered their way into the quarterfinals of the Cup
championship on the opening day of the Western Province under 19 seven a
side rugby tournament worked off at the CR and FC grounds in Longden
Place yesterday.
The Thomians struck form from the beginning as they defeated
President's College (32-nil), St. John's College (22-nil) and Zahira
College (26-nil) respectively. They will now take on Piliyandala Central
in the third quarterfinal schedule for today at the same venue.
Former champions Isipatana College also booked a place in the last
eight following an impressive record during the preliminary round of the
competition. They will confront Ananda College in the quarterfinals.
In the other two quarterfinals of the tournament St. Joseph's College
will meet Royal College and Nalanda College will be up against Mahanama
College. The Plate and Bowl quarterfinals will also be worked off today. |
