New Kelanimulla bridge to be opened

The newly constructed bridge across the Kelani Ganga at Kelanimulla, Mulleriyawa will be opened by Highways Minister, T. B. Ekanayake on Friday, May 30 at 10 a.m.

Labour Minister, Mervyn Silva and Chairman of REEL, former Deputy Transport and Highways Minister and SLFP Organiser for Kolonnawa, Bennet Cooray will participate.

The four-lane concrete bridge built at a cost of Rs. 350m by the Road Development Authority together with State Engineering Corporation and the State Construction and Development Corporation once opened will serve as a major route, connecting the Kandy Road via Kelaniya on the east bank of the Kelani with Ambatale - Thotalanga Road, which runs along the West Bank, from Mulleriyawa to the New Kelani bridge.

This will ease the traffic congestion along the Kandy Road and help divert traffic to Parliament, Kottawa, Dehiwala and Galle Road, through Galwana, Mulleriyawa, Kottikawatte and Gothatuwa junctions, thus avoiding Colombo City AK
