No amendments to UNP constitution till December - Gen. Secretary

UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayaka said that amendments to the party constitution will not be done under any circumstances before December.

He told the Sunday Observer that the main matter pertaining to the party leadership and the powers vested in him will be discussed at the party's annual convention, scheduled to be held in December.

"Fourteen matters which were submitted by senior party officials by their committee report last week was discussed on September 12".

"These 14 matters related to the election of members to the party's executive committee, the selection of candidates for future elections and various other development activities which are to be carried out by the party during the coming months," he said.

Attanayaka said that the remaining matter which affects the party leadership will be discussed at the annual convention.

Asked whether some senior party members had discussed the importance of replacing a new party leader at this juncture, Attanayaka denied it.
