Lankan specialises in spacial sciences

Dr. Kalum Priyanath Udagepola is the first Sri Lankan to specialise in spacial sciences which is the second most important stream in the USA. He has won the prestigious Queensland (Australian) Spacial Excellence Award for post-graduate research recently where he completed his PhD within three years.

This highly competitive award was given to a selected few out of 100 spacial science PhD holders in Australia for 2007-2008. Dr. Udagepola was awarded a PhD in Engineering specialising in Computer Science along with the 'Best Student' prize from the renowned Harbin Institute of Technology, China.

Dr. Udagepola won his first Sri Lankan award at the recently concluded The Outstanding Young Person's (TOYP) Awards 2008 in the Technological Development category.

"I have also been nominated in the Asia Pacific Spatial Excellence Awards (APSEA) 2008 in Canberra Australia", he said.
