Colombo Deaf Schools 'A' win Deaf Schools cricket sixes

SOFTBALL CRICKET: Colombo Deaf Schools 'A' captained by Sumudu Lanka beat Anuradhapura Deaf 'A' by five wickets in the final of All-Island Deaf Schools Six-a-Side Softball Cricket Tournament played at the S. de S. Jayasinghe grounds, Dehiwela recently. The tournament was organised by the Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket Association.

Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket Association (SLDCA) was founded in 1995 by Mrs. K. D. Anula Ranjani in order to uplift leather ball cricket among the deaf population in Sri Lanka with the active participation of the parents and friends of deaf cricketers.

The efforts of SLDCA have paid off since 2000, as some of the players play division three cricket conducted by the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.

According to Shivantha Vivekanandan - President, Sri Lanka Deaf Cricket Association, the Sri Lanka Deaf cricket team participated in the first Deaf World Cricket Cup in 1995/96 played in Australia and also in the Second Deaf Cricket World Cup in 2005 in India.
