Logos College makes headway
Children are always special and though there are 9,700 schools in Sri
Lanka there is a vaccum that had to be filled. Thus was born Logos
College in 2007.
The school follows the national syllabus but it is taught in English.
The school provides a holistic education and it is multi-cultural and
multi-ethnic, said the Principal of Logos College mrs. Priyani Fernando.
"The school started with 34 students and had classes from grade 1-4.
Now we have increased to Grade 7. We plan to add a class each year.
The size of a class is small as we want to pay individual attention
to all students.
The maximum number in a class is 28 and all children are provided
with facilities to learn computer from grade one while there is a
library too. There are co- curricular activities such as English
literary club, art and craft club, commerce service club, community
service club, choir and a band while the extracurricular activities
within the school are chess, table tennis, badminton, basketball
swimming and cricket.
Mrs Fernando said that there are a few vacancies for children with
special needs.
Chairman of the governing board, Eran wickremaratne said "for us
children are special and therefore we are involved in this school. The
infrastructure for the school was provided by the church but they don't
have any shares in the school.
The board members are volunteers and our sole aim is to nurture good
citizens who are well groomed and disciplined. It is not a commercial
venture where profits will be earned and distributed but it is a fee
levying school as the school has to maintain, grow and sustain itself".
The school year starts in January and ends in December.
The principal, Mrs Fernando is very experienced.
She was the former principal of Methodist College, Colombo while the
teachers too are dedicated and experienced. |
