The Government of India has honoured Standard Chartered Bank, the
country's first and largest international bank, by launching a
commemorative postal stamp to mark Standard Chartered's 150th
anniversary at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the
President of India.
The stamp was released by the President of India in the presence of
Member Postal Services Board along with Peter Sands, Group Chief
Executive, Standard Chartered PLC and Jaspal Bindra, Chief Executive,
Asia.
"Standard Chartered is honoured by this immense recognition received
from the Government of India. We are deeply grateful to President
Pratibha Patil for this gracious gesture," Sands said.
"This stamp is a recognition of the Bank's commitment and
contribution to this country.
India is one of the most valuable countries in Standard Chartered's
network. We began our journey with this country, opening our first
branch in Kolkata 150 years ago.
Today, we are the country's largest international bank with 90
branches across 33 cities. We are committed to India and will continue
to grow and contribute to the country's prosperity." |
