More food items to reach Kilinochchi tomorrow

Another stock of food items received as aid from the Government of India will be sent in 70 lorries tomorrow from Vavuniya to Kilinochchi, Ministry of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services said. Last Friday a convoy of 20 lorries carrying flour, sugar, dhal and kerosene were sent to Kilinochchi from Vavuniya.

"We strongly believe it is the utmost duty of the Government to provide people with disaster relief services, especially when they are facing adverse conditions due to terrorist threats," said Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services Minister Rishad Bathiudeen.

Last Friday another group of 183 civilians reached Vavuniya escaping from the uncleared areas increasing the total number of escapees to 322. At present, these displaced people are staying at the Menic Farm welfare centre in Vavuniya.

Minister Bathiudeen said they are ready to provide all facilities to these civilians which includes fresh food, drinking water, health and sanitary facilities.
