Sepaktakraw Nationals Dec. 6 and 7
SEPAKTAKRAW: The Amateur Sepaktakraw Association of Sri Lanka
will conduct Sepaktakraw Nationals 2008 on December 6th and 7 at the
Indoor Sports Complex of the University of Colombo, Reid Avenue, Colombo
7 starting at 8. a.m.
Sepaktakraw is a game similar to volleyball. Instead of using their
hands, players are eligible to use their feet, head and shoulders to lob
the ball over the net.
The Nationals are open to all sports associations, schools, clubs and
institutions. Entry form can be obtained from Mr. M. G. Razak, the

Entries closed on November 20th 2008. In order to accommodate more
participants the Association has decided to extend the closing date of
entries to the 30th of November 2008.
Two or more teams from each club or sports body will be accommodated.
Teams from Hambantota, Badulla, Nawalapitiya, Kandy and Kurunegala
are expected to take part in the two-day event. Outstation teams are
expected give a tough fight to the Colombo teams participating as
Colombo District, Kollonnawa, Old Wesleyites, Garudas and Army SC.
Kollonnawa are reigning champions having won the title last year.
According to the Chairman of the Organising Committee T. F. Ousmand,
elaborate arrangements are being made to conduct this year's Nationals
on a grand scale under the supervision of the President of the
Association T. Nizam Hajireen, a treble international in rugby, football
and Sepaktakraw.
Several prizes are lined up for the winners, runners-up, the third
placed team and winners of the special events such as Regu and Doubles.
All participating teams, especially from the outstations will receive
Sepaktakraw balls, CD's containing the skills and basic rules of the
game approved by the International Sepaktakraw Federation.
Those who have helped the game too will be honored at the conclusion
of the tournament.
Retd, Brigadier T.S.B. Sally, a past President of the former
Sepaktakraw Federation will be the chief guest. |
