ComBank branches open on Mahasivarathri
More than 80 branches of the Commercial Bank of Ceylon will stay open
for business on Monday, February 23, a public and bank holiday on
account of Mahasivarathri.
Sri Lanka's benchmark private sector bank has announced that all its
84 branches in the districts of Colombo and Gampaha will be kept open on
this day.
This is in addition to the 23 supermarket banking counters all over
the country and the Holiday Banking Centres at Colombo 7, Negombo, Galle
City, Kandy City and Ampara, which are open on all public, bank and
mercantile holidays.
Mr. Sanath Bandaranayake - Deputy General Manager (Operations) said:
"The Bank decided to stay open on February 23 to cater to the emerging
trends and needs of customers.
The increasing numbers of retail banking customers who visit
Commercial Bank's Holiday Banking Centres also indicate the need for
banking service on holidays."
"We hope our decision to open all branches in Colombo and Gampaha
Districts and many more outside will help take the pressure off our
Holiday Banking Centres. On this day, customers would be able to carry
out all over-the-counter banking transactions including opening of
accounts and obtaining foreign exchange for travel overseas," he added.
Established in 1969, Commercial Bank is Sri Lanka's leading bank,
with dominant positions in consumer banking, treasury and securities
markets.
The Bank's network covers 170 computer-linked branches and
supermarket banking counters and 333 ATMs in Sri Lanka.
The Bank has been adjudged Sri Lanka's 'Bank of the Year' seven times
by 'The Banker', a top notch global banking magazine and also been rated
the 'Best Bank in Sri Lanka' for ten consecutive years by US based
'Global Finance' Magazine.
In July 2007 the Bank was named the 'Best Bank' in Sri Lanka by
another prestigious international financial magazine 'Euromoney'.
