Over 350 professionals click at photography seminar

More than 350 professional photographers gathered at Waters Edge Battaramulla to be a part of Sri Lanka's first professional photography seminar organised jointly by Canon and Metropolitan Office Ltd.

The workshop brought together professional photographers from every part of the island who gathered to share knowledge and to learn techniques and skills from local and international photography experts, at the `Get the Best from your Digital SLR camera and lenses workshop/seminar'.

"This is the first ever workshop for professional photographers has been organised at an international level and the industry has been lacking these initiatives. So this workshop comes at a very important time as a boost for the development of this booming industry," participants at the workshop said addressing the gathering.

The event was organised by Canon and Metropolitan in support of photography industry and to provide a forum for budding professionals to learn from the experts and for the mature professional photographers to share their experiences and skills.

"We want to support the industry and the people in the industry, that is the professional photographers to learn the trends of the global photography industry as well as to help them to improve their skills to globally competitive levels. Canon kindly offered to send two of their top experts and Metropolitan subsidised the cost to allow many to participate," Suresh Herath, Product Manager for Canon Cameras at Metropolitan Ltd. said. The event focused on many interesting aspects of photography from functions and techniques of operating and maintaining a professional camera to special interest areas such as wildlife photography, wedding photography and media photography.

The workshop also offered participants the opportunity to learn about the techniques and features of their cameras from the manufacturers themselves.

Canon experts, Roland Poon and Wrixon Wong who flew in for the workshop shared some of the best kept secrets of Canon cameras and the future technologies that are of benefit to the photographer.

Local specialists included renowned wedding photographer Bandu Gunaratne, acclaimed wildlife photographer Luxshmanan Nadaraja and experienced media photographer Sri Lal Gomes, who shared their secrets of the perfect picture.
