Maps of airports found in LTTE ammo dump

High technical data on Airports and Air Force bases in Sri Lanka including maps and manuals of sophisticated aircraft were found by the Sri Lanka Army hidden in a massive LTTE arms and ammunition dump.

Troops attached to the 57 Division commanded by Major General Jagath Dias recovered the arms and ammunition East of Pudukkudyirrippu, according to ground sources.

The arms and ammunition included, 300,000 M16 primers mainly used in manufacturing Anti Personnel mines, 40,000 detonators, 100,000 5.56mm ammunition used for M16 weapons, 80,000 9mm rounds, 20,000 3.47 mach rounds and 30,000 0.38 ammunition.

The arms and ammunition were recovered by the 18 Vijeyaba Infantry Battalion under the 572 Brigade commanded by Colonel Senerath Bandara during the search and clear operations.

Following the historic victory over terrorism, the Sri Lanka Army expedited the search and clear operations in the affected areas enabling resettlement and development work to be initiated as early as possible.

All the Divisions and Task Forces are conducting search and clear operations providing more strength.
