Sunshine Games bring cheer to disabled children
SUNSHINE GAMES: Around 720 children from 24 schools all over the
country will be taking part in the Sunshine Games - the largest annual
sports meet for differently - abled children at the Sports Ministry
Grounds, Reid Avenue, Colombo 7 on Sunday May 31, 2009. This is the 18
consecutive year that this club is holding a meet of this nature. This
Sports Meet is once again organised by the Rotary Club of Colombo
Metropolitan.
Categories of disabilities of the children who are taking part are:
Moderate mobility needs, one leg below knee amputees, one or both arms
missing or impaired, totally visually impaired, partially visually
impaired, hearing and/or speech impaired and special educational
needs.All participants, teachers, parents, etc numbering around 1,100
will be provided with free breakfast, drink, lunch, ice cream, tea and
short-eats.
The Games will be held in a carnival atmosphere with many items of
entertainment for the kids.
Participants will also receive valuable gift packs.The project costs
Rs. 1.2 million and the main sponsor is Pan Asia Bank.
