Kandy in an unimpressive win

Defending Caltex League Champion Kandy Sports Club put up an
unimpressive display to score 27 points (2 goals, 2 tries, 1 penalty),
to 6 (1 drop goal, 1 penalty) win over Sri Lanka Air Force in their
Caltex League Rugby tournament match played at Nittawela yesterday. At
half Kandy led 8-3.
Kandy worst with this match without 7 of their regulars' all national
players. They were go short of players that they named their manager.
Kapila Silva in the reserves list and was seen seated in the bench
awaiting a call from the middle at any time. Even the injured Fazil
Mariga was in the bench to meet any contingency.
It was no doubt a lack lustre game or rugby at slow motion in other
words and the flamtboyant Kandy's rugby was not on show.
Kandy drew first blood in the 10th minute when pool forward kishore
Jehan scored off a mauch with centre Mohamed Sheriff failing to add the
extra points. Kandy 5-0.
Air Force reduced the lead in the 14 minute through a 30 metre drop
goal excuted by stand off Roshan Hapugastenna.
In the 25th minute Kandy increased their lead through a 20 metre
penalty fixed by full back Radhika Hethiarachchi Kandy 8-3.
Kandy further increased their lead in the 6th minute of second when
Acting captain Sameera Silva playing in his 13th year for the club
freezed his way to score by right corner flag. Radhika Hettiarachchi
made a brilliant conversion. Kandy 15-3.
In the 14th minute scrum half Krishantha Rajapakse sneaked over to
score by the right corner. Full back. Radhike Hettiarachchi with a well
directed kick added the extra points. Kandy 22-3.
In the 26th minute Air Force were awarded a penalty and stand off
Roshan Hapugastenna converted. Air Force 6-22.
During the injury time Kandy's substitute winger Dhanushka
Pushpakumara scored off a three quarter move.
