Sheer dedication for Wanni liberation
The military has put an end to the three decades long battle due to
sheer political commitment of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the
dedication of the Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the
Commander of the Army General Sarath Fonseka, the General Officer
Commanding 59 Division and Director Infantry Brig. Chagie Gallage said
at a function held to facilitate his contribution to the Wanni
liberation, early this week. The ceremony was organised by the people of
Mirihana, his home town.
Addressing the gathering he said that the commitment of the Army was
not yet over and the soldiers would engage in their humanitarian mission
until all the displaced Tamils were resettled in their villages. "Sri
Lanka is a united country and we - Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims and others
can live together. We all should help Tamils who are now displaced to
stand on their own feet", he said.Brig. Gallage said that this was the
first time that the patriotic public rallied round the government and
the military from the beginning of the offensives until the military
recorded the historical victory.
"You blessed us all these days and it made the soldiers go that extra
mile" he said requesting the people to be more vigilant as the
eradicating of the LTTE was not yet fully completed.
Brig. Gallage who commanded the Thoppigala liberation as the Task
Force 1 Commander, has played an active role in the Wanni liberation by
being the representative of the Commander to co-ordinate all infantry
troops and also later as the Acting GOC of the 55 Division. Referring to
the LTTE terrorists as a set of jackals with tiger coats he said that
military would continue to protect the country from all future evils.
