‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’
If Brad Pitt really did have this disease where he was born old and
died young, Angelina Jolie most probably would have had to adopt him -
not marry him. ‘The Curious Case’ of Benjamin Button begins with Daisy,
an ageing woman, on her deathbed at a hospital minutes before Hurricane
Katrina is about to hit. She tells her daughter to read the journal of a
person by the name of Benjamin Button who is her late lover.
Caroline, reading through the texts finally realises that her father
is Benjamin but because of his condition, he couldn’t be with her, as
much as he wanted to. Benjamin was born old, being an ugly baby,
abandoned by his father by putting him on the step of a nursing home.
Benjamin was taken in lovingly and fostered by his black mother -
Queenie who at the beginning couldn’t conceive.
However, as fate may have it Benjamin travels the world over but
regularly keeps in touch with Daisy who becomes a famous ballerina
dancer in New York. Benjamin is in love with Daisy but up until they
meet at the correct age of 40 do they fall in love and have a child.
However, Benjamin has to leave since he can’t grow old with his daughter
and asks Daisy to live her life without him.
It’s a poignant story about emotions, love and family togetherness.
It makes you think that in spite of conditions and diseases, love
definitely conquers all. `The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’ received
thirteen Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best
Director, Best Actor for Pitt, and Best Supporting Actress for Taraji P.
Henson. It won three Oscars for Art Direction, Makeup, and Visual
Effects, and has tied the record for the most nominated film not to win
the Academy Award for Best Picture.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
More than just seeing Hugh Jackman running around naked after his
`mutant’ operation, the flick `X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ is definitely a
good one.
Packed with romance, action and plenty of bad-guy plots, the flick is
definitely a must-watch if you’re one of those die-hard `Marvel-
readers. Liev Schreiber acts as Victor Creed and Lynn Collins as Kayla
Silverfox all make the action high for Hugh Jackman. Victor is
Wolverine’s (Logan) half-brother and they survive for over a century
fighting wars but after they are known to survive a firing squad,
William Stryker asks them to join Team-X, a mutant team.
But Wolverine finds that what they are fighting for is useless and
then goes on his own to Canada where he makes life with Kayla Silverfox.
He has recurring nightmares and one day, Stryker finds him to warn him
that someone is out to kill Team-X. When Wolverine finds out it’s
Victor, after finding Kayla supposedly dead, he vows to seek revenge.
He goes to Stryker who turns him into a adamantium-clawed mutant.
Thereafter, he goes to seek revenge by going to the island where
Stryker is having his new laboratory to perform experiments on mutants.
There, Wolverine learns that Silverfox is still alive and was conspiring
with Stryker the whole time in exchange for her abducted sister’s
safety, but still genuinely loved Wolverine.
Wolverine, feeling hurt and betrayed, leaves, and Stryker refuses
Victor to give the adamantium bonding promised for his service, on the
basis that he will not survive the procedure.
Victor, enraged, tries to kill Kayla, but Logan hears her screams and
stops him. Logan nearly kills Victor but spares him, and agrees to help
Kayla free the imprisoned mutants. At the end, Wolverine and Victor
together take down the ultra-mutant `Deadpool’ who is Stryker’s son with
all the mutant weapons but Wolverine forgets Kayla carrying her away. |
