Gajaba Regiment honours Defence Secretary

Maj. Gen. Jagath Dias, representing all Keterians, as they
are popularly called, gifted a special memento to the
Defence Secretary as a token of memory of the GR Silver
Jubileem, and below Defence Secretary being greeted by
offcers of the Gajaba Regiment on arrival.

The Gajaba Regiment (GR) of the Army goes down in the history of the
Sri Lanka Army as the Regiment which produced the majority of Wanni
field Commanders who led a successful battle to wipe out LTTE terrorism
from the country.
The triumph fittingly by coincided with their Silver Jubilee
celebrations with the Regiment honouring the top-most administrator in
the defence field, the Defence Secretary, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa who was a
former Gajaba Regiment infantryman at a ceremony held at Regimental
Headquarters at Saliyapura, Anuradhapura last Friday.
Rajapaksa, who placed floral bouquets at the foot of the marble War
Hero monument at the entrance to the GR Headquarters, also paid tribute
to Maj. Gen. Wijaya Wimalarathne, the architect of the GR and its first
Commanding Officer.
Maj. Gen. Jagath Dias, GOC 57 Division, Maj. Gen. Kamal Gunarathna
GOC 53 Division, Brig. Chagie Gallage GOC 59 Division, Brig. Shavendra
Silva, GOC 58 Division, GR Commandant and other GR senior and junior
officers joined in welcoming the Defence Secretary who was a tower of
strength in the historic military victory over terrorism.
