24-hour bus service on selected routes

The Ministry of Transport has decided to introduce a 24-hour bus service on selected routes in Colombo soon.

This is in addition to long distance bus services operating round the clock. Currently bus services on these routes do not ply after 9 p.m. and with the introduction of the night bus services commuters would be greatly benefited.

"This scheme was introduced not as a profitable venture but purely as a service," said Minister of Transport Dullas Alahapperuma. A special fuel allocation would be released for this scheme from the National Transport Commission. The routes will be from Piliyandala to Bandaragama, Mount Lavinia, Kahapola, Moragahahena and Moratuwa.

The Homagama Depot will operate night buses to Kaduwela, Moragahahena, Hanwella and Halbarawa.

In addition buses will also ply between, Narahenpita, Wellawatte, Kotte, Malabe and Nugegoda to Ratmalana, Halbarawa and Thalapathpitiya.
