Ex-LTTE cemetery keeper manhandled

A person who had been in charge of the now defunct LTTE's so-called Martyrs' cemetery in the Wanni was severely manhandled by the inmates at an IDP centre in Vavuniya a few days ago, sources said. The person who was attacked by the inmates at the IDP centre was identified as Pon Thiyagam and he was in disguise like a beggar with a long beard. Those who assaulted him had used abusive language and cursed the LTTE for the deaths of thousands of their kith and kin, the sources said.

Following the melee at the IDP centre in Chettikulam, security officers had to intervene and separate him from the rest of the IDPs.

The alleged LTTE cemetery keeper is now under interrogation by the Army as he had been responsible for the burial of dead LTTE cadres and maintained a record of their details, the sources said.
