Four meet records on penultimate day

Four new meet records were established by K.T. Cherantha de Silva of
Ananda College, Sachin Kumarajeewa of St. Joseph's College, Chandula
Fernando of Royal and W.K.S. Wickremarachchi of Royal College,
Polonnaruwa on the penultimate day of the four-day 36th Sri Lanka
Schools Swimming and Diving Championships organised by Sri Lanka Schools
Aquatic Sports Association and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd (Milo) held
at the Sugathadasa Stadium Pool yesterday.
Cherantha set the record in the boys under-13 freestyle 27.60 secs,
Sachin accounted to the second record in the under-13 boys 200 metres
individual medley 2:33.47 secs, Chandula's new mark was in the boys
under-13 400 metres freestyle 4:54.35 secs. While Wickremarachchi was
responsible for the fourth record in the boys under-15 400 metres
freestyle 4:40.24 secs.
The defending champions St. Joseph's College and Mahamaya College,
Kandy seemed set to retain the boys and girls overall titles as they
were in front in the overall points standings in both the junior and
senior sections.
Diving
National diving champion Hiraz Izbullah of Royal and Suhendrini
Yatawara of Bishop's College emerged as under-19 boys and girls winners
respectively in the Spring Board Diving.
The other results boys under-17 - M.U. Sharrzt Uwais (Royal) and
Shzne Lee (St. Joseph's College, joint winners), under-15 W.A. Leed
Uwais (Royal), under-13 Rifzt Uwais (Royal), under-9 M.H.M. Inshaf (De
La Salle College, Mutwal).
Girls under-17 - Gethmini Gunasekera (Anula Vidyalaya), under-15
Yashoda de Silva (St. Bridget's Convent), under-13 Jilhan Fernando (Good
Shepherd Convent, Kotahena), under-9 Hasini Molligoda (Bishop's
College's)
Royal and St. Bridget's Convent were in the lead in the Spring Board
Diving. Platform diving together with 24 swimming events will be
continued today from 8.30 a.m.
