Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie donate $1 million to hospital

Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt and his family donated $1 million to a Missouri hospital over the weekend. Brad’s bro, Doug, announced the generous contribution to St. John’s Hospital in his hometown of Springfield Saturday.

The money will establish an endowment fund to pay children’s cancer specialists, the Springfield News-Leader reports. The hospital’s cancer treatment unit will be renamed the Jane Pitt Pediatric Cancer Center, in honor of Brad’s mom, who is passionate about children’s issues. Once completed this summer, St. John’s Hospital will become one of six affiliates of the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (one of Jennifer Aniston’s favorite charities).

The endowment fund will also go toward building a new pediatric unit, a 10-bedroom hospital-based Ronald McDonald house and doubling the size of the neonatal and pediatric intensive care units. St. John’s is matching the $1 million donation to help fund the expansion.

‘Lord Of The Rings’ stars return to Middle-Earth for ‘The Hobbit’

Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of “The Hobbit” will have some familiar

faces. “Lord of the Rings” trilogy actors Andy Serkis (Gollum), Ian McKellen (Gandalf) and Hugo Weaving (Elrond) will all reprise their roles, the

director revealed on BBC Radio’s Simon Mayo program.

“The Hobbit,” based on the book by J.R.R. Tolkien, is set before the events of the author’s “LOTR” series, and follows Frodo Baggins’ uncle, Bilbo, and his adventures in acquiring the one Ring.

Del Toro intends on splitting the book into two films, and revealed on the program that Gandalf’s abrupt departure from Bilbo and the dwarves’ quest against the dragon Smaug - not narrated in the novel - will appear on screen as a means of further linking the film to Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” movies.“There is a whole other chapter, so to speak, which is the comings and going of Gandalf which are dealt with,” del Toro said.

“People that know the lore know that Gandalf was delayed with a crisis... with a character that is very shady called the Necromancer that proves to be Sauron.” In the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, Sauron - a rival wizard to Gandalf - was played by Sala Baker. The director didn’t say if he would appear in the upcoming films. The first installment of “The Hobbit” is due in December 2011.

Victoria Beckham terrified of earthquakes

David Beckham’s wife, Victoria (Posh Spice) loves living in California except for one thing: earthquakes.

Apparently their home lies on the Newport-Inglewood Fault and thus the fear of their entire world being thrown into the ocean has Victoria shaking in her designer boots.Surely she could hold on to hunky David during the tremors, no? Posh Spice has even “had sessions in an earthquake simulator to try to get used to the movements.”

The Beckham boys love it in L.A. but this earthquake business has given Victoria second thoughts. Couldn’t they just move somewhere not on a fault line?
