

The dynamic entertainment duo ‘Des and Dez’ will storm the stage at
the BMICH at a one off concert on July 24 and literally rock you off
your seats.
‘Des and Dez’ with only a change of an alphabet to their names to
make them different come together in music to raise your adrenalin
levels! Desmond de Silva (now in London) and Dezmond Rodrigo domiciled
in USA will be assisted at the concert by A.E. Manoharan, Sunil Perera,
Mariazelle and Ginger who make a welcome return to the concert stage.
The whole show is produced and presented by Rajiv Sebastian, with his
band the Clan playing the music for the artistes. If you remember last
November Rajiv presented the sell out concert “The Legends of Sri Lankan
Pop”.
“This time the audience are in for not only good music, but also
drama and humour at the event. Desmond de Silva well-known for his all
time Yanna Rata Wate, Chuda Mannike, Mamma No and more will join A.E.
Manoharan on a brand new duet Kalakata Passe which reflects their
emotions after the war that has ended.
Sunil Perera who generally questions the audience with his satirical
“I Don’t Know Why will be in for a scintillating question time in song,
with the songs posed by Dezmond Rodrigo comments Rajiv when questioned
on what the audience can expect from the concert.
Dezmond Rodrigo will sing his mega hits Bruce Lee, Negala Yanawa,
Peththappu and will duet with Mariazelle and Ginger before he teams up
with Desmond de Silva to bring the house down with their Double Decker
Bus Eka, an original composed by Rajiv Sebastian.
Sebastian is confident that the audience will get their monies worth
as the singers’ repertoire will be a blend of the old and new. Rajiv is
responsible for the music arrangements and the concert will be threaded
together by Vijaya Corea.
This musical extravaganza is filled with fun, dance and glamour.
‘Intimate conversations in music’
Back home to spread musical happiness is young Ashan Pillai
critically acclaimed and described as a brilliant professional.
A violist Ashan will be centre stage at the concert ‘Intimate
Conversations for Viola and Piano’. His pianist will be another young
and renowned musician Eshantha Peiris.
The concert will be presented on August 6, 7.30 p.m. at the Lionel
Wendt, by the British Council in celebration of its 60th year in Sri
Lanka. The duets by the two musicians - no frills, no gimmicks - will
demand nothing less than your full attention. Ashan Pillai made his
first appearance when he played with the English Chamber Orchestra at
the concert to mark the 50th Anniversary of Independence in the presence
of HRH Prince Charles.
Ashan has won many international prizes which include the Tertis
International Competition and the Rome International Competition.
Eshantha Peiris earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Music
Performance and Composition at New York University and served as an
adjunct piano instructor and as assistant conductor of the NYU
orchestra. Since his return to Sri Lanka, Eshantha has been actively
involved in the local music scene, playing keyboards in the fusion -
jazz band Thriloka and other jazz outfits.
The programme chosen by the duo Ashan and Eshantha is bound to make
classical music lovers happy. |
