Lab management program to be launched
The need to steer, motivate and guide the testing, calibration and
medical laboratories towards the process of accreditation and thereby
deliver competence and credibility to bridge the technology gap is
considered as a national priority by the Ministry of Science and
Technology. A similar vision is also adopted by the Ministry of Health
in their drive towards the development of National Laboratory Policy.
In recognition of this direct need of the country this effort is to
pool the national resource base of knowledge and skill in the laboratory
industry to establish Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
programs.
This being a prime requirement in the process towards accreditation a
"Laboratory Management Development" program is designed addressing the
concern related to all aspects of management, and management concepts
which revolve around the Laboratory.
The launch of the Laboratory Management Development Program titled
"Developing Laboratory Managers for the Future" conducted by the
Biomedical Technical Services (Pvt) Ltd., with the affiliation of
Postgraduate Institute of Management Alumni (PIMA) is scheduled to be
held in the first week of August.
Who should attend
This course is designed for laboratory managers, supervisors,
scientists, technologists, technicians and laboratory personnel with
responsibilities for developing and implementing laboratory quality
management system in their workplace. This program is designed
specifically for those who are in the medical laboratories and all other
testing and calibration laboratories in line with the International
Standards ISO 15189 and 17025.
Learning objectives
Upon completion of the course, participants will have an
understanding of the main components of a laboratory such as
* Operational management
* Technical management
* Theoretical topics related to Testing/Calibration laboratories
* Theoretical topics related to Medical laboratories
Participants will become familiar with the skills necessary to create
a "managerial culture" in the laboratory and will be better able to deal
with obstacles in implementing effective continuous development programs
in the laboratory.
Course description
This course focuses on laboratory management functions and addresses
key topics including operational management, technical management and
theoretical management on ISO 15189 and 17025.
The course methodologies are presentations, problem solving sessions,
group discussions, and case studies. Participants are encouraged to
raise their own workplace issues with the expectation that they will
bring back practical solutions and approaches to solve current concerns.
Faculty
The technical and theoretical management aspects will be covered by
the faculty drawn from academics of leading universities, faculties,
government hospitals, medical institutions, and accreditation agencies
while the Operational Management topics will be covered by renowned
professional from leading organisations under the auspices of the PIMA.
