A damsel in distress, trapped in the clutches of a playboy and a
knight in shining amour... That is basically what ‘Julia’, the UK-Sri
Lanka based movie is about.
The movie sees the entrance of two young filmmakers. Sampath Sri
Roshana who had won fame through Jeewithe Lassanai is the director of
the movie while Charith Abeysinghe is the producer. Significantly both
youths take on the lead male roles in the production along with the
charming Nadeesha Hemamali as, Julia, the central role in the story.
Sasanthi Jayasekara, Ravindra Randeniya, Robin Fernando, Sriyantha
Mendis, Veena Jayakody, Sandun Wijesiri, Rex Kodippily, Harsha
Bulathsinhala, Teddy Vidyalankara, Achala Walpola, Bandula Sooriya
Bandara, child actress Dinuli Mallawarachchi and others also play
significant roles in ‘Julia’.
Though the movie is screening at EAP circuit cinemas these days, it
was the first local movie to debut at an international theatre, the
Odeon, Empire Leicester Square, England last year. ‘Julia’ includes a
number of picturesque locations in London, Essex and the Buckingham
Palace. Nadeesha portrays the character of the fun-loving and
sweet-natured Julia who leads a happy-go-lucky lifestyle. However her
peace is shattered once she encounters Dilru, a shady character. He
tricks her and deserts her.
Meanwhile Dilru’s friend turned foe, Dev, captures her. He forces her
into a plan to track Dilru but soon feels compassion for the lovely
young girl. Life plunges into even graver circumstances once Julia and
Dilru are united. Julia faces more pain and horror as Dilru’s character
comes to light.
Dev finds himself tangled in a web of emotion, deception as his
ultimate wish changes to defending and saving Julia from his enemy. The
cameraman is Donald Karunaratne while Ranjit Mathangaweera handled the
make-up department.
Sujeewa Gunaratne is the art director and Ranjith Prasanna the
Assistant Director. Jaganth Nissanka is the Production Executive; Nalam
Atigala is the line producer and Sugath Sisira is the media coordinator
of the film.
Ranga Dassanayake, the son of the late veteran musician Sarath
Dassanayake, has made his debut into film music direction in ‘Julia’.
Dr. Ajantha Ranasinghe, Kelum Srimal, Ananda Padmasiri and Namal
Attygalle have penned the lyrics while Kasun Kalhara, Uresha Ravihari,
Gratiaen Ananda, Bachchi Susan, Charith Abeysinghe, Bhathiya Jayakody,
Ashanti Sandria and others have lent their voices to the songs. The
melodies were composed by Ranga Dassanayake, Bhathiya Jayakody, Kasun
Kalhara, Gratiaen Ananda and Nuwan Thenuwara. ‘Julia’ is also the newest
Sri Lankan movie that had adopted the latest height definition cinema
technology. |
