Young groovers who frequent the discos will be happy to learn that
the only “DJ Trio” in Sri Lanka have ventured into vocals! The DJ Trio
is the popular KNH Project - Kapila, Naushad and Harith whose artistry
in mixing grooves is much sought after.
The Trio have released their original song ‘Dollar Boy’ and has been
registered at the Sri Lanka Performing Rights Society Limited. This as
the trio claims is the first vocal release recorded by professional DJs
in Sri Lanka.
“The lyrics were written by Kapila and tells the tale of a club
reveller enjoying the best things in life, having fun and feasting. Its
all about high life, fun, star class hotels and endless partying. The
music arrangements were by Aruna Liam of Jayasri fame.
We’ve used a female voice as well, that of Relene from the
Philippines. We intend recording a video clip which will be released in
Austria and the marketing of it will be handled by Aruna Liam who is
based in Vienna “DJ Harith clues us into the creation of Dollar Boy,
which at future gigs will be performed by KNH who have always wanted
ever since they combined give a new turn to DJ culture in Sri Lanka, and
this they have achieved with success.
To their credit it must be spotlighted that for Shaggy’s tour of Sri
Lanka KNH was called upon to remix Shaggy’s hit single ‘It Wasn’t Me’
and which the trio remixed with a fusion of Sri Lankan drums. The
version was played live at the concert and was well received. Called an
E-mix it was sponsored by E 100.4.
A quick spool back on KNH’s history revealed that it was a casual
chat at the Blue Elephant Discotheque that saw the birth of the Trio and
now after a period of creative mixing KNH have earned themselves the
name ‘natural entertainers’ in front of audiences, and ‘mix masters’
behind consoles and studios. |
