 The Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka (SOSL) will continue its
memorable 52nd season with the popular Young Soloists' Concert which
showcases Sri Lanka's young musical talent and has been held annually
for over two decades. Four talented young soloists and a composer will
feature in this year's concert on Saturday, August 1 at the Ladies
College Hall at 7 p.m.
SOSL will premiere young composer Natasha Senanayake's composition,
'Of Shores Near and Far.' which was written especially for SOSL. fifteen
year old Liezl Fernando will play one of Mozart's finest concerto's his
famous Piano Concerto No. 20; Johann A. Peiris makes his debut in his
piano performance of Cesar Franck's Symphonic Variations; Tilanka
Jayamanne will be the soloist in Mozart's Flute Concerto No. 1; Soprano
Dinali David's repertoire will be Agustin Lara's Granada, Charles
Gounod's Repentir (O Divine Redeemer) and Carl M. von Weber's Leise,
leise, fromme Weise (Agathe's aria) from Act 2: Der Freischtz (The
Marksman).
'Of Shores Near and Far.' is a fusion of musical thoughts influenced
by Natasha's Life experiences in Sri Lanka and the USA. Natasha, who is
also a pianist and flautist, began her music studies at the age of five
and has won many prizes for her achievements in music, both in and
outside her alma mater, Ladies College and many awards from the Trinity
College of Music, London including an ATCL in piano.
