3,000 displaced families to be resettled
Plans are under way to resettle 3,000 internally displaced families
in 35 villages in the Vavuniya district by early next month.
The Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force chief and Senior Presidential
Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa told a progress review
meeting at the Vavuniya District Secretariat that these families would
be resettled by August 7.
The meeting centered on sectors such as agriculture, road,
irrigation, education, health, electricity, drinking water, resettlement
and de-mining. It was agreed to allocate Rs. 9.4 million for the
Paavattakulam irrigation scheme and six million rupees for the
Iratta-Periyakulam irrigation scheme.
