Nallur festival begins tomorrow
The annual festival of the historic Nallur Kanthaswami Kovil in
Jaffna begins tomorrow.The temple management, police and the Municipal
officials in Jaffna have made elaborate arrangements to look into the
welfare of thousands of devotees, attending the festival in Nallur,
which will continue for twenty-five days. Informed sources said the
Nallur festival will be the first peace time festival in three decades.
A large number of expatriate Tamils are also expected to arrive in
Jaffna for the festival. Several expatriates have already arrived in
Jaffna. The chariot festival of Nallur, will take place on August 19,
and the water-cutting ceremony will be held on the following day.
Padukka corr. dies
Dharmasiri Wijeratne -Hanwella Group Corr.
Lake House Padukka Group Correspondent, Benette Kalukapuge died at
the age of 79.
He was the Padukka correspondent from 1986 until his death.He leaves
his wife and two children.His remains lie at No. 339, Jayanthi Mawatha,
Padukka.The cremation takes place today at Galagedara Crematorium at
5.00 p.m.

Diriyata Saviya on July 31
Diriyata Saviya Scholarships program initiated by Rotary Club of
Kelaniya will be held on Friday July 31 at 10.00 a.m. at Wedamulla Maha
Vidyalaya Auditorium, Kelaniya.The selected children will receive a sum
of Rs. 1,000 monthly for a period of two years.
MP Sarath Ranawaka passes away

The Member of Parliament for Kaluthara District Sarath Ranawaka (UNP)
passed away yesterday morning at the Sri Jayawardanapura Hospital.He was
ailing for some time and was 63 at the time of his death. He was the
father of two daughters. Funeral arrangements will be notified later.
