Big prizes to be won in OBSERVER-MOBITEL cricket contests
CRICKET: It’s on again and the OBSERVER-MOBITEL Most Popular
Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2009 has caught interest and votes are
pouring in for the schoolboy cricketers who are doing a good service to
the schools that they represent.
The contests are on for the 31st year and all indications are that
this year’s competition will not be second to any of the previous
contests held in this competition.
Right now the competition has gone on for five weeks and at the end
of voting on coupon number five Harith Jayampathi of D. S. Senanayake
College leads in the All-Island Contest with 5,262 votes, with another
D. S. Senanayake College cricketer in Navin Kavikara - last year’s
runner-up, with 4,764 votes while in third position at the end of
counting on coupon number five is Angelo Perera of St.Peter’s who led
the Peterites in the inter-school cricket season this year. Perera has
4,524 votes.
In the Outstation Contest, Krishan Wickremarachchi of Gamini Maha
Vidyalaya of Bentota is in the lead with 6,298 votes. There seems to be
a tremendous lot of interest in the Outstation Contest with new schools
coming into the fray and in the coming weeks there is bound to be a lot
of votes pouring in for the cricketer Wickremarachchi from his Bentota
cricket fans.
In second position, another cricketer from down south - S. H. Indunil
Kumara of Devapathiraja Vidyalaya in Ratgama. Kumara has collected 3,764
votes and third is Shehan Silva from Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa with
2,339 votes.
Readers are remained that any number of coupons for any one cricketer
can be sent in one envelops.There is a number of prizes awaiting readers
of the Sunday Observer who send in votes for their favourite schoolboy
cricketers in this competition. There are cash prizes totalling to Rs.
5,000 a week, there is a weekly draw and readers stand to win two
Mobitel-Mobile phones along with Smart Pre-Paid Connections and
Re-charged cards. There is also a monthly draw and this is for any
school to win a Desktop Computer with M3 Highspeed Internet Connection.
