Swimmer Udara wins three golds at NSF
Udara Cumaratunga of Visakha Vidyalaya was the cynosure of all eyes
at the swimming competition of the XXVth National Sports Festival worked
off at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Pool last weekend.
She bagged three gold medals in women's 100m freestyle, 100m
backstroke and 50m backstroke with two new meet records. The 16-year-old
lass, coached by Sumith Darmadasa, has shown great talent this year,
securing first places in women's 200m, 100m and 50m backstroke finals at
the 2009 Sri Lanka Schools' Swimming and Diving Championships, all with
new meet records.
She also accounted for the first place in women's 200m, 100m and 50m
backstroke events at this year's National Short Course Swimming
Championships.
Besides underlining her supremacy as a backstroke champion winning
200m, 100m and 50m (new meet record) at the 35th National Age Group
Championship, young Cumaratunga won five titles at the meet, winning
women's 50m and 100m events too.
