Three held for SP Jalaldeen's slaying

The three suspects who allegedly shot Superintendent of Police Jalaldeen while coming out of a mosque in Kalmunai area in April this year were arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) from the Karaitivu camp following a tip off given by the Police Intelligence Bureau, Police Media Spokesman Ranjith Gunesekera told the Sunday Observer.

The three suspects include a trader and two persons who had worked for a foreign employment bureau in the area. The police are interrogating the three suspects to ascertain the motive behind the killing.

However Police sources said that it was probably a contract killing initiated by a third party. The suspects are from Vavunathivu and Karaitivu areas.

The STF Commandos carried out a search operation in Kalmunai area to apprehend the three suspects who had been evading arrest for several months, SSP Gunesekera said.
