Ashan 76, Dheyan 51 in Tamil Union's 311/9

CRICKET: Two splendid half centuries from former Sri Lanka Under-19 captain Ashan Priyanjan (76) and Dheyan Ranatunga (51) helped Tamil Union reach a formidable 311 for 9 in their first innings on the opening day of their SLC Under-23 Division I Two-day Cricket Tournament match against Seeduwa Raddoluwa CC which commenced at the BRC grounds, Havelock Park yesterday.

Tamil Union: 311 for 9 decl (A. Priyanjan 76, D. Ranatunga 51, U. Peiris 46, K. Sajithpriya 42, I. Udana 26, C. Gayan 3 for 43, I. Massalage 2 for 49).

Seeduwa Raddoluwa CC: 37 for 1.

Ragama CC on top

Left-arm fast bowler Nilanka Premaratne and left-arm spinner Mangala Kumara shared eight wickets between them to help Ragama CC skittle out their opponents Colts CC for just 129 runs in their first innings on the opening day of their SLC Under-23 Division I Two-day Cricket Tournament match which commenced at Havelock Park yesterday.

Colts CC: 129 (R. Silva 55 n.o, N. Premaratne 4 for 42, M. Kumara 4 for 21).

Ragama CC: 133 for 4 (N. Mazahir 40, L. Peiris 28 n.o, S. Soysa 29).

Chilaw Marians - hit back

Chilaw Marians SC, after being dismissed for 169, hit back strongly to reduce SSC to 163 for 7 in their first innings on the opening day of their SLC Under-23 Division I Two-day Cricket Tournament match which commenced at Maitland Place yesterday.

Chilaw Marians SC: 169 (L. Weragala 49, A. Athulathmudali 39, S. Fernando 4 for 58, U. Manohara 4 for 44).

SSC: 163 for 7 (B. Rajapaksa 22, C. Jayampathy 45 n.o, S. Fernando 31 n.o, M. Pushpakumara 3 for 45, M. Liyanapathirana 2 for 62).

NCC well on course

Former Sri Lanka under 19 vice captain Dinesh Chandimal and Eranga Gangoda completed superb half centuries to put NCC well on course to a first innings victory over Moors SC on the opening day of their SLC Under-23 Division I Two-day Cricket Tournament match which commenced at Braybrooke Place yesterday.

Moors SC: 228 (S. Weerasinghe 58, I. Gunasena 36 n.o, P. Hewage 29, L. Gamage 3 for 44, P. Priyankara 2 for 50, R. Laksiri 2 for 78).

NCC: 165 for 4 (D. Chandimal 80, E. Gangoda 58 n.o, I. Gunasena 4 for 46).

Shalika 112 in K'gala YCC's 237/7

Opener Shalika Tharinda hit a splendid 112 to help Kurunegala YCC reach 237 for 7 in their first innings on the opening day of their SLC Under-23 Division I Two-day Cricket Tournament match against Saracens SC which commenced at the Welagedera Stadium in Kurunegala yesterday.

Kurunegala YCC: 237 for 7 (S. Tharinda 112, S. Edirisinghe 59 n.o, C. Fernando 4 for 54) v Saracens SC.

Old Cambrians in command

Sebastianites Sports Club were 56 for 3 in reply to Old Cambrians total of 283 runs at the end of day one in their Inter-Club Under-23 division two tournament cricket match organised by SLC and played at Moratuwa. Three half centuries came off the bats of Dimuthu Warapitiya 65, Sohan de Mel 65 and Madushanka Fernando 63 for Old Cambrians.

Buddhika Janith claimed 4 for 46, Trevin Fernando was unbeaten on 34 for Sebs.

Chief scores

Old Cambrians: 283 - Dimith Warapitiya 65, Sohan de Mel 65, Madushanka Fernando 63, Lahiru Dias 2 for 53, Randika Fernando 3 for 90, Buddhika Janith 4 for 46).

Sebastianites SC: 56 for 3 - Trevin Fernando 34 not out, Thilina Fernando 3 for 18).

Athula Eranga 140 for Air Force

A fine knock of 130 with 13 fours and 6 sixes off 140 balls by Athula Eranga helped Sri Lanka Air Force to total 279 in their Premier League Under-23 Cricket Tournament match against Kandy Youths Cricket Club which began at Air Force Grounds yesterday.

At close Kandy Youths were 67/1.

Sri Lanka Air Force: 279 all out in 66.4 overs (Athula Eranga 130, Nipuna Pavithra 34, Janaka Peiris 34, K. Kandanaarachchi 25, Marlon Fernando 24, Kasun Ekanayaka 6 for 56, Shaveendra Amaradasa 2 for 39). Kandy Youths CC: 67 for 1 in 27 overs (Madhuka Weerasinghe 39 not out, Malindu Perera 20 not out).
