Ranjith Samarsekera, the former Colts CC captain and a distinguished Old Antonian, who presided over a press briefing held at the Old Bens Sports Club pavilion in connection with the tournament, said that the quadrangular tournament was the brain-child of the Old Bens initiated for the OBU's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Variuos schools were invited to play in a tournament. However, only three catholic schools responded positively to the invitation.
