Dharmasiri Gamage felicitation at BMICH
`Sihina Nelum Mala', a felicitation ceremony organised by the
Dharmasiri Gamage Foundation to mark the veteran cine artiste Dharmasiri
Gamage's 5th death anniversary will be held on September 19 at 7.00 p.m. at
Sirimavo Bandaranaike Memorial Hall (BMICH).
Mediamen Gamini Sumanasekera and Dr. Praneeth Abeysundara will
address the audience.Maestro Amaradeva, Visharada Nanda Malini, Latha Walpola
and several vocalists will sing the late artiste's songs.Music director: Ranjith

Mahaweli Week Sept 14 to 20
The 'Mahaweli Week' will be held in all the Mahaweli Systems
from September 14 to 20 as a memento of the development achieved from the
Mahaweli Development Program under the direction of the Minister of Agriculture
Development and Agrarian Services Maithripala Sirisena.
The thousands of farmers who have been settled in the Mahaweli
areas will participate in the Mahaweli week activities.The Mahaweli Authority of
Sri Lanka will commence 'Mahaweli week' by naming the 14th September as
'Religious Day' and the culmination of events of the Mahaweli Week will be
marked by a farmers rally and closing ceremony organised at Angunakolapelessa,
Walawe Mahaweli Special area, with the participation of 10,000 farmers on
September 20.September 15 has been named as 'Social Welfare Day', whilst
September, 16 will be the 'Productivity Day'.Arrangements have also been made to
clean and renovate the canals and dams in the Mahaweli areas by a shramadana
organised with the participation of thousands of farmers of the Mahaweli Systems
on September 17, which has been named as the 'Irrigation Day'.Growing homesteads
under the 'Api Wawamu Rata Nagamu' program and a field Agricultural Day will be
the highlight of the 'Agricultural Day' - September 18.
September 19 will be the 'Education and Cultural Day' of the
Mahaweli Week.
Kuwait help for IDPs

The Kuwait Dairy Foundation donated 2000 Kuwait dinars to the
Muslim Council of Sri Lanka (MCSL) to be utilised for the resettlement programme
of IDPs in Mannar.
The former Ambassador of Kuwait M.A.C.L. Suhail handed over the
cheque for the amount to MCSL President N.M. Ameen at a simple ceremony held at
Colombo.
The funds are to be specially utilised for the livelihood
development and to create self employment opportunities for the resettled IDPs,
Ameen added.
‘Spectacular Walk’ on Sept. 19
The Old Girls’ Association of Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda has
organised the ‘Spectacular Walk’ on Saturday Sept. 19 at 8.30 a.m. to collect
funds for the proposed college gymnasium. The Walk will proceed from the school
premises to Delkanda Junction via High Level Road and then return to school via
Old Kesbewa road.
The OGA kindly calls for the fullest co-operation and patronage
of all Old Anulians, and present and past members of the staff.

`Dharmapala Puthra’ to be conferred on military officers
Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya will hold a special ceremony
to felicitate past Dharmapalians serving in the three Forces and the Police and
those who made the supreme sacrifice in the recent war. The event is scheduled
for Friday 18 at the College premises.
The following leading officers will be conferred with the
highest award, ‘Dharmapala Puthra’: Gen. Rohan Daluwatte, Air Chief Marshal
Oliver Ranasinghe, Maj. Gen. Neil Dias, Rear Admiral D.K. Dassanayake, Maj. Gen.
