Lethal items among betel leaves
Two T-56 rifle bullets, one switch and two batteries were found in a
three-wheeler at the Menik Farm IDP centre in Vavuniya on Friday, Army
sources said.
According to sources the three-wheeler was carrying bundles of betel
leaves and when it was checked the lethal items were found hidden among
the betel leaves.
The three-wheeler driver has been taken in for questioning. Further
investigations are being carried out by the Vavuniya police, the sources
said.
Meanwhile, two Bangalore torpedoes, 64 anti personnel mines, one RPG
round, one 81 mm mortar bomb, one 60 mm mortar bomb, eighteen 82 mm
mortar bombs, eleven T-56 weapons, seven multi-purpose machine guns, one
shotgun, three pressure mines, a bomb weighing 46 kilogrammes, 490
sniper ammunition, 400 rounds of 90 mm ammunition, 1,200 micro
ammunition, 5,916, T-56 rounds, 29 T-56 magazines, 4MPMG drums, 24
kilogrammes C-4 explosives, 100 metres of detonating code, two claymore
mines, two outboard motors, three electric detonators, two claymore mine
stands, one MPMG ammunition and a 30 metre length flexible wire were
found in the Visuwamadu, Puthukudiyiruppu. Thissapuram and the Alankulam
areas in the Wanni by the Army, the sources said.
