The 10-member Tamil Nadu delegation that arrived in Colombo yesterday
afternoon would visit IDP welfare villages in Chettikulam this
afternoon, following a visit to Jaffna in the morning.
They will assess conditions of the IDPs, relief and welfare
facilities being provided to them and other issues that had raised
concerns in Tamil Nadu since the defeat of LTTE terrorism in May this
year and the consequent internal displacement of over 300,000 families
from Vanni areas where the Security Forces carried out operations
against the LTTE.
The delegation headed by Union Minister T.R.Balu and five other MPs
from Tamil Nadu's ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), including
Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's daughter M.K.Kanimozhi, his son
K.S.Azhagiri, three MPs from the Congress Party and the leader of the
Viduthalai Chruthaigal Katchy (VCK) Thol.Thirumavalavan will also visit
plantations towns Kotagala, Hatton and Nuwara Eliya, Government sources
said.
