Farmers' Week from today

The 'Api Wawamu - Rata Nagamu' national campaign to step up domestic
food production and the National Farmers' Week will be held from today
till October 16 at Kaduruwela, Polonnaruwa.
Minister of Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services
Maithripala Sirisena said that the main objective of the national
campaign 'Api Wawamu - Rata Nagamu' project was to achieve President
Mahinda Rajapaksa's vision to develop the economy based on agriculture.
The Minister said that the project had achieved remarkable results
and increased paddy, vegetable and food productions during the past two
years.
The National 'Wap Magul' ceremony aimed at cultivating abandoned
paddy lands will be held under the patronage of President Rajapaksa on
October 12, the second day of National Farmers' Week at Kandalama,
Dambulla, he said.
National Agriculture, Trade and Industrial Exhibitions cultural shows
rewards and certificates for winners at the National Home Garden
Competitions and World Food Day seminar are the other highlights during
the National Farmers' Week.
