Railway station construction to be expedited

The Government has handed over the authority of carrying out certain construction projects to some Ministers and the Chiefs of Local Government bodies, to expedite the construction of the railway stations from Vavuniya to Kankasanthurai, Transport Ministry sources said.

The Transport Ministry officially handed over the construction contracts of 14 railway stations out of the 27 stations to be constructed along the way between Vavuniya and Kankasanthurai to Government and private (local and foreign) parties recently.Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma handed over the agreements to the 14 parties.

Accordingly, Highway Development Minister T.B. Ekanayake will take charge of the construction work of Puliyankulam railway station while North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha and Health Care and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva will be in charge of the construction of Mankulam, Elephant Pass and Chawakachchery railway stations respectively.
