SPORTS AWARDS: Ayeshani Weerakkody, who led Sri Lanka Women's Hockey
Team to China and Shamalka Anandagoda - a National Champion in Athletics
were selected as the 'Best Sportswomen' of the Year at the annual
Colours Awards ceremony of Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy.
The awards ceremony was held under the patronage of Mr. Gotabhaya
Rajapaksa - the Secretary of Defence, Public Security, Law and Order,
Mr. Pujitha Jayasundera, DIG (CP) and Mrs. Leisha de Silva Chandrasena -
Chairperson of Telecom-Mobitel were the guests of honour.
The awards ceremony was held at the college auditorium.The 'Pahana'
Award which is the highest award presented, was awarded to 12 students
and certificates of merit were given to over 250 students. Colours were
awarded to 61 students of the school. The 'Pahana' Award were awarded to
the following students:
Chess: Anjana Perera
Netball: Thilini Bandara and Madavi Weeratunge.
Cadeting: Cpl., Udyakanthi B. P. H.; Cpl. Bandara K. N., Lns Cpl.
Hansamalie, H. P. G. K. S., Cdt. Dayaratne H. R. M. G. K., Cdt.
Wijewardena G. G. R.C., Cdt. de Alwis, D. D. A. A.
Best Performance (Swimming): Hasanie Weeratunge, Madhavi Weeratunge,
Sunethra Wijeratne and Lumbini Ambewela in Chess. Best Sportswomen of
the Year: Ayeshani Weerakkody and Shamalka Anandagoda.
