Rs. 34 m nutrition program for students in welfare villages

The Nutrition Division of the Ministry of Education has taken steps
to implement a special nutrition program for schoolchildren in the
welfare villages of the North at a cost of Rs. 34 million on a decision
made by Minister Susil Premajayantha, Ministry sources said.
According to the Ministry of Education, the program was started at
Chettikulam welfare village recently. Nearly 65,000 schoolchildren would
benefit under this program. These Special nutritional food items are
given to the parents to be fed to their children as cooked-food.
A new housing scheme has been completed in Mannar for the fisherfolk.
It was launched under the Uthuru Wasanthaya Northern Spring Housing
Development Program, Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Sources
said.
A notable feature was the completion of the project within 100 days.
These houses will be distributed to 50 fisher families who have taken
shelter in temporary sheds.
According to the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, the
National Housing Development Authority launched the Scheme with the
contribution of the Jana Sevana housing assistance program. Roads, water
and power are among the basic amenities provided.
The Housing Scheme was launched on the instructions of the President
and the guidance of Chief of the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force and Senior
Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa. It will be
vested in the people shortly.
