The Commander of the
Pakistan Air Force Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman was
accorded a Guard of Honour by the Sri Lanka Army yesterday
at its Headquarters. On his arrival the Air Chief Marshal
Suleman was received by the Volunteer Forces Commander and
Master General Ordnances Major General Jammika Liyanage
followed by a Guard of Honour. Following the Guard of Honour,
the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya
received the Pakistani Air Force chief along with the other
senior military officials at the Army Headquarters. |

Minister of Healthcare
and Nutrition Nimal Siripala de Silva was the chief guest at

Officers at the Nurses Training College in Vavuniya.

Institute released a book on all aspects of journalism, in
Tamil recently. Veteran journalist and former Deputy Editor
of the Daily News, T.Sabaratnam, who headed the team of
media personnel responsible for authoring this book is seen

ITN clinches Service Brand award

Solar eclipse on Jan. 15
An annular solar eclipse will occur in Sri Lanka on January 15 next
year, astronomer Anura C. Perera said. The eclipse will begin at 9.15 am
and end at 3.37 pm on the same day.
It will be clearly visible over Jaffna. Since travel to Jaffna is
difficult, it could be viewed from Chilaw or Trincomale.The eclipse
should not be viewed with naked eyes, but with protective gear, Perera
warned.
Sabarimalai season begins

The annual pilgrimage season of Sabarimalai temple in Kerala, India
on the first day of the month of Karthigai (November) will begin on
November 17.
The All Ceylon Ananda Iyappa Devasthanam at Aluth Mawatha, Colombo
15, has made arrangements for the pilgrimage.
Survey on foreign employment

Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare Ministry has made
arrangements to conduct a social and economic survey on expatriate
workers and those seeking foreign employment, the Ministry’s Additional
Secretary Sujan Nanayakkara stated.
The necessary data is being collected by the Ministry’s field staff
with the assistance of Grama Niladharis.

British Council (BC) in partnership with the Ken Sprague Fund UK has
organised a cartoon contest on climate change.
The contest is open to all Sri Lankan citizens from 18 to 35 years.

Lake House Transport Manager’s mother dies
A social worker and senior citizen Mayurawathi Mallawarachchi (91),
wife of late David Sendanayake and mother of Transport Manager of Lake
House, Sunil Sendanayake, has passed away. Her funeral will take place
at Panthiya Cemetery, Mathugama on Monday Nov. 16 at 4.00 p.m. The
cortege will leave residenced Welipanna, Uragoda, Matugama for cremation
at 3 p.m. Mayurawathi Mallawarachchi leaves her loving children
