Anura Rohana men's golf champion
by Richard Dwight
GOLF: The four-day Sri Lanka men's open golf championship
co-sponsored by Ceylon Cold Stores and generously supported by Pam
Fernando, ended on a triumphant note for leading front line golfer,
Anura Rohana when he came right on top on Friday at the RCGC to be men's
golf champion for the year 2010.
The fast becoming much travelled professional, Rohana did not have it
easy, for closely following him were N. Thanga Raj and Tissa Chandradasa.
Rohana did appear to play well in patches for on the opening day in
round one he had a one under par 70, on the third day he slipped in the
third round to have a four over par 75 and on the final day in the
fourth round he did even worse to have a five over par 76.
It was his five under par 66 on the second day in the second round,
which gave Rohana the distinctive advantage of having a comparatively
winning aggregate of 287.
N. Thanga Raj who on the penultimate day was placed second after the
third round with a par 71 to have a total of 216 and be five shots
behind Rohana - did not fare well on Friday in the fourth and final
round to strike a six over par 77 and have an aggregate of 293 to be
placed third six behind Rohana. Tissa Chandradasa performed extremely
well to redeem himself from fifth position to end up as runner-up.
This was mainly due to his playing steady golf right through the four
rounds with scores of 74, 74, 73 and 70 to have an aggregate of 291 to
be four shots behind the winner Rohana.
