Observer-Mobitel Cricket Contest hailed by top stars

OBSERVER-MOBITEL: The Observer-Mobitel Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year Contest opened the door for young cricketers to further their interest in the game. The contest is a forerunner for cricketers to gain recognition at the highest level. Ranjan Madugalle was the Observer first Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year in 1979 and (earlier in 1978 Madugalle won the award when the contest was sponsored by Warner-Hudnut Limited.

Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama conforms to international requirements

Sri Lanka sportsmen and sportswomen will greatly benefit with the opening of the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Diyagama, Homagama last Thursday by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. This stadium is the second biggest stadium in the country and will have the facilities of conducting a number of sporting events, namely track and field, football, rugby, volleyball, netball, basketball, rifle shooting, archery and swimming.
