Amila dead
Amila Sandaruwan, the two-and-a-half year-old boy who fought a losing
battle to regain consciousness after his mother allegedly threw him into
the Kalu Ganga, died yesterday at the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital
in Colombo. He never recovered from the coma.
It was one of the most shocking cases of child murder in recent
memory, more so because the culprit was his mother.
Who can possibly forget the absolutely shocking TV footage of a two
and half year-old-boy floating, seemingly drowned, in the Kalu Ganga in
Kalutara? Bystanders rescued the boy and he was rushed to the Lady
Ridgeway - one of the best children’s hospitals in Asia. Doctors led by
LRCH Director Dr. Mahanama Rajamanthree strove round the clock to save
Amila’s life.
The boy was in life support for around one and half weeks and died
around 11.45 yesterday morning.
