President has a vision for the future:
TNA cannot deceive people any more in N-E - Ex TNA Wanni MP
by our political correspondent
Wanni District United People’s Freedom Alliance candidate and former
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian Sivanathan Kishore said
that as President Mahinda Rajapaksa was heading on the right track in
addressing the minority issues and the Opposition, especially the TNA
could not deceive the people in the North and the East as it had done in
the past.
Sivanathan Kishore who had been a key political figure of the TNA in
the previous Parliament told the Sunday Observer that unlike the
previous leaders President Rajapaksa has a broader outlook with regard
to the unity and integrity of the country. “The leaders, Tamils or
Sinhalese in the past thrived in their political career by fanning
communal sentiments. But President Rajapaksa and his Government are
completely different from the rulers and regimes in the past.
“The opening of the newly reconstructed Mannar causeway is a sheer
example of President Rajapaksa’s approach towards bridging the gap
between various communities in the country. The Mannar causeway which
was destroyed when clashes in the North were at its peak was in a
dilapidated condition for more than a decade.
However, on the directive of President Rajapaksa the Mannar causeway
which links the Mannar Island with the mainland was rebuilt with
Japanese aid in less than one year.
The reconstruction of the causeway highlights the Government’s
expeditious efforts in providing infrastructure facilities to areas
which were devastated by conflicts in the past,” Kishore said.
Commenting on the TNA’s stance with regard to the parliamentary
polls, he said that it was pity that the party was still trying to
mislead the people it represented.
“The TNA must realise the plight of the people in the North and the
East. The three-decade war had shattered the lives of our people
enormously. Since the forthcoming parliamentary polls will be taking
place for the first time in a peaceful atmosphere the minority parties,
especially the parties from the North and the East should act wisely in
resolving the issues of their people which are multi-faceted,” Kishore
said.
