Over 75 percent of IDPs resettled

The number of weapons and explosives being recovered from the areas liberated from the clutches of the LTTE is a cause for surprise and concern, Director General of the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Lakshman Hulugalla said.

Hulugalla made these observations during a meeting with journalists from the Northern and Eastern Provinces at the MCNS auditorium recently.

“The Forces almost daily recover weapons and explosives from North and the East. This is surprising. All these weapons have been brought into the country illegally. It is a big problem for us”, he said.

Meanwhile, 75 percent of the IDPs have been resettled in their own places while nearly 35,000 persons are to be resettled.

They will also be resettled in their own places after the landmines and explosives have been removed from those areas. The Government is paying maximum attention to the safety and security of these people, Hulugalla added.
