Selladore presents ‘The Unsung Theory’

A distinctive twist on the mundane words `cellar door' results in the phono-aesthetically pleasing coinage - Selladore - a variation that astonished the creator of the Chronicles of Narnia. Hence it seems fitting that this "enchanting proper name" as C.S. Lewis subsequently described it, be associated with the inventive choral group that prepares to entice the city of Colombo.

Selladore presents as its debut performance, a concert titled `The Unsung Theory'. The show will exhibit an original approach to contemporary music and will be brought to life by a vivacious group of highly talented singers that range in age from 13 to 23 years.

The chorale consists of past and present students from Ladies' College, Royal College, S. Thomas' College, St. Peter's College and the Colombo International School - who possess in common a musical background, coupled with a desire to communicate the message that music is timeless and is a connecting bridge across humanity.

The Unsung Theory promises to be a ground-breaking concert as it features a quaint choral approach to a multiplicity of popular styles in music. The young performers hope to shed a new light on the usual choir concert witnessed by Sri Lankan audiences, by performing a range of hits from many genres. An interesting aspect of this evening of choral entertainment is that it caters primarily to the Sri Lankan youth, as it pays tribute to a range of contemporary artistes - Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Imogen Heap, K.T.Tunstall and Bob Marley - to name a few. The evening will climax with the premier performance of an original composition by Selladore's very own, Natasha Senanayake.

Part proceeds will be donated towards the charity organization "Women in Need" as the choir is keen to support local charities. The Unsung Theory will be staged on August 6 and 7 from 7 pm at British School auditorium.

Further details could be obtained from the British School auditorium or from Anushka (077-6709047).
