Nagarika Tharunaya team wins netball title

SPORTS FESTIVAL: Nagarika Tharunaya team won the men’s netball tournament while Kegalle were runners-up and Puttalam were third at the 22nd National Youth Sports Festival qualifying competition held at the National Youth Centre in Maharagama.

There were 15 teams that participated in netball including Northern Province and Eastern Province.

Then in the volleyball competition for women, there were 16 teams in the fray and Trincomalee and Kalutara qualified to play in the final. Third place went to Kurunegala District team.

In the men’s volleyball tournament, Kurunegala and Colombo qualified to play in the final while third place went to Kalutara District team. There were 20 teams that participated.

The finals will be played at the Duraiyappah Stadium in Jaffna in October. This is the first time that a National Sports Festival is taking place in Jaffna.

The best way to maintain peace and harmony between the North and South is through sports, said Chairman and Director General of the National Youth Services Council Lasith Pium Perera.
