Dear Erica
Dear Erica,
I’m a 22-year-old girl and I’m at a turning point in my career
working for a fairly large organisation. I’m also engaged in my studies.
My problem is that I have been overburdened with duties at work and have
a few important exams coming up. I’m really stressed out and since I’m
engaged in the marketing field, I need to work extra hard to sell our
products and services. By the time I come home, I’m tired and can’t find
the time to study during the weekends as well. I fear that I will fail
my exams. Please help me.
-Exhausted
Dear Exhausted,
Sometimes it’s hard to multi-task certain things in life, especially
when you find yourself working hard at many things at the same time. At
present you stand at two important junctures in your life. Your career
and your education! You need to prioritise your workload as well as your
exams.
First of all bring into the notice of your supervisor about your
workload. Seek his/her advice and opinion on how you can manage it. If
the organisation needs you badly, I’m sure they will compromise. Then
try to make a little time table for yourself to study.
Try to set apart an hour or so everyday to go through your notes. It
would be much easier if you can go through your notes on a daily basis,
so that you need not wait until the last moment to take in all at once.
Everything depends on how you manage and balance these tasks. It’s also
important to keep up a positive attitude and a get some relaxation out
of work and study.
As it helps you to minimise stress levels and give you a better
concentration over things. If you’re still not sure about your exams you
might have to contact your academy and make suitable arrangements with
them. Don’t worry and don’t plan to fail. All the best!
Dear Erica,
I am a 29-year old guy. Single and doing a job. I’m not social and my
life has been work and home. I think I’m suffering from social-phobia.
Everything in my life is an utter-chaos. I’ve been taking medicine since
three years but with no improvement. I don’t have a permanent place to
live and can’t manage my salary as well as my time. Sometimes I feel to
get suicidal. What can I do?
- Sad
Dear Sad,
As much as you find it hard to get on with life I feel that you
should take action to solve your problem rather than worry about it.
Apart from taking in medication for your problem, it’s important that
you have to do some self-help to gradually improve yourself.
You can start by making changes to your lifestyle.
Try to avoid any unhealthy habits and thoughts that could be an
obstacle to your improvement. You could use some relaxation techniques
and breathing exercises to dismiss all those anxieties you might be
going through. This may take time but effective on the long run.
Negative and unsupportive thoughts may trigger social phobia, instead
you should start replacing them with positive and balanced thoughts.
Stop avoiding situations and people that you are afraid of facing.
Start by associating with people and situations you think you are
capable of adjusting and gradually try getting out a bit and doing
activities that interests you and interacting with people you might find
yourself comfortable with.
It’s true that you might find these things hard to follow at first
but gradually you will begin to notice the difference and this
confidence in return will bring you better opportunities in life and
will help you in improving your quality of life. For the time being try
planning a simple budget for your monthly expenses and building a
positive attitude for yourself. All the best!
